POMEGRANATES ARE IN SEASON – HERE’S WHY YOU’LL LOVE THEM!

Pomegranates are in season and bursting with flavour – but how do you pick, store, and use them? Discover our top tips, easy ideas, and flavour pairings

Fresh, juicy, and full of goodness – now’s the perfect time to enjoy pomegranates at their peak.

At Fruitezy, we know pomegranates can be a little mysterious if you're not used to buying them. Are they worth the fuss? What do you even do with them? The answer is a big yes – and we’re here to help you love them as much as we do.

WHY POMEGRANATES?

Right now, pomegranates are in season in Australia, so you're getting them at their absolute best – super fresh, bursting with flavour, and great value. Inside that deep red shell are hundreds of ruby-like arils (the juice-filled seeds), offering a sweet-tart flavour that’s as refreshing as it is good for you.

Packed with antioxidants, vitamin C, and fibre, pomegranates are a healthy addition to your everyday meals – and they make everything look a little more special.

WHAT DO THEY TASTE LIKE?

Pomegranate arils have a juicy pop with a balance of sweetness and tang – think a cross between cherries and cranberries. They brighten up both savoury and sweet dishes and add crunch, colour, and zing wherever they go.

HOW TO USE POMEGRANATES

Here are some easy and delicious ways to enjoy them:

  • Sprinkle over salads – especially with baby spinach, rocket, goats’ cheese or halloumi, and toasted nuts.
  • Top your breakfast – spoon over yoghurt, porridge, or chia pudding.
  • Toss into grain bowls – like quinoa, couscous, or wild rice with herbs and citrus.
  • Mix into desserts – use as a topping for pavlovas, panna cotta, or even ice cream.
  • Squeeze for fresh juice – either on its own or combined with orange, watermelon or apple juice.
  • Garnish cocktails or mocktails – a few arils in a glass of bubbles is a festive touch.

FLAVOUR FRIENDS

  • Pomegranates pair beautifully with:
  • Citrus (especially oranges and lemons)
  • Fresh herbs like mint, coriander, and parsley
  • Middle Eastern spices – cumin, sumac, za’atar
  • Meats like lamb and chicken
  • Cheeses – especially feta, goat cheese, and labneh
  • Nuts – pistachios, walnuts, almonds

They’re perfect in dishes that need a burst of freshness or a contrast in texture.

HOW TO SELECT A GOOD POMEGRANATE

Look for fruit that:

  • Feels heavy for its size – that means it’s full of juice
  • Has a rich, deep colour – from red to reddish-brown
  • Feels firm – not soft or shrivelled
  • At Fruitezy, we’ve done the hard work for you – our pomegranates are handpicked for ripeness, quality, and value.

STORING YOUR POMEGRANATES

Whole pomegranates will last up to 2 weeks at room temperature or up to a month in the fridge.
