KENSINGTON PRIDE

  • Sweet and tangy with rich, juicy flesh.
  • A strong mango aroma and is slightly soft to the touch when ripe.
  • Available September – February

CALYPSO

  • Sweet juicy flavour, with a small seed, firm flesh and no stringy bits.
  • No green tinge to the skin and slightly soft to touch.
  • Available September - March.

R2E2

  • Sweet fresh flavour and firm fleshed.
  • Skin gives slightly to gentle pressure when ripe.
  • Available October - February.

HONEY GOLD

  • A rich sweet flavour and firm fibreless juicy flesh.
  • Skin is golden all over, with a distinct mango aroma and slightly soft to the touch when ripe.
  • Available November - March.

Good for you

A very good source of vitamin C which contributes to the normal functioning of the body’s immune system.

A good source of beta carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A. This vitamin is needed for normal vision. The deeper the colour of the mango flesh, the higher the level of beta carotene. Mango flesh also provides another carotenoid called cryptoxanthin which is being researched for its role in normal eye health.

A source of dietary fibre which is important for the normal function of the intestine.

To prepare

Use a sharp knife to remove the mango cheeks, cutting as close as possible to the stone. Slice off the skin and chop or slice the flesh as required.

Mango honeycombs

Remove the mango cheeks then score a lattice pattern into the flesh (avoid cutting through the skin). Hold the mango cheek in your hand and push the skin side to expose the flesh choose firm mangoes with a fresh sweet tropical fragrance.

Fruit should be golden rather than green. Ripen mangoes at room temperature until the fruit yields to gentle pressure around the stem.
