Chestnuts Fresh Sweet Ezy Peel (1kg Net)

In Season
Snap up chestnuts while they are in season from mid-march through to July. Make sure you stock your freezer so chestnuts are on hand all year to add that ‘special touch’ to your everyday meals.

To select
The freshest chestnuts have a glossy brown, firm shell and feel heavy for their size. When pressed, they should feel dense and not spongy.

To store
Keep uncooked chestnuts in a paper bag in the refrigerator crisper for 2-3 days. For longer storage, refrigerate chestnuts in an airtight container and use them within 10 days.

Cooked chestnuts can be kept in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 3-4 days. For longer storage, freeze chestnuts in handy-sized freezer bags for up to 6 months so they’re on hand to make everyday meals special!

To Roast Chestnuts

Preheat oven to 200°C (180°C fan-forced). Cut a shallow cross into the flat side of each chestnut shell. Place chestnuts onto a baking tray and bake for 15-20 minutes or until the shells split open. Once cooked, remove chestnuts from the heat and wrap them in a clean tea towel for 5 minutes. While chestnuts are still warm, quickly peel off the outer brown shell and papery casing.
